Hi, I'm Janet.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles and moved to San Diego to attend UCSD where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Art. I have 20+ years of experience as a graphic designer as well as 14 years experience teaching drawing and painting to children.
Ever since I was young, I would ask for pencil and paper to doodle and draw and write. I am inspired by nature, travel and love to create — paintings, handmade note cards and good, clean design.
In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with my husband and friends. I love watching sunsets, amateur photography, traveling and am always on a search for a really good cup of coffee.
Why all the flowers?
When i first started teaching art, I was learning the nitty gritty of painting with acrylics. I starting painting the subject matter of flowers. Because I like them. Because I thought they'd make good note cards. There are so many varieties and the details are so interesting. I thought painting flowers was maybe just a phase, an obsession. So this past year, I dove into a challenge of painting 100 flowers… to see if I would get sick of it, sick of flowers. Nope. There are so many I haven’t even seen or heard of. I could go on and on. I like researching the varieties and experimenting with color, details and texture.
The more I paint or do creative things, the more I want to do it. I do my best to carve out time to create on a regular basis. I believe this fuels my inspiration. Especially since I work a full time design job, setting aside time to create is just as important to me as rest — a necessary thing to fill up my creativity tank.
